CSEM-UAE is a joint venture company between the Swiss Research Center CSEM and the Government of Ras Al Khaimah through its Investment Authority RAKIA. The company, operational since September 2005, is funded by RAKIA. It is located in the industrial area of Al Jazeera Al Hamra near Ras Al Khaimah City.

CSEM, Centre Suisse d' Electronique et de Microtechnique (Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology), founded in 1984, is a private applied research and development center. It offers its customers and industry partners tailor-made innovative solutions based on its knowledge of the market and technological expertise derived from applied research. Its success story was launched as a result of the visionary plans of the Swiss Confederation in the early 1980s. At that time, the Swiss Federal Council was concerned that Swiss industry was losing ground in the field of new technologies to neighboring countries. To counter this trend, it strongly supported the creation of a private research and development center in Switzerland.

RAKIA, the RAK Investment Authority was constituted in 2005 by H.H. Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. Its mandate is to work towards reinforcing the investment climate in the emirate and to promote its various economic sectors. Its vision is to build a diverse economy that enjoys sustainable growth by attracting investments from the domestic and foreign markets that will create wealth and raise the standard of living for the people of Ras Al Khaimah. Its mission is to offer complete solutions to the needs of every investor and to make investment in Ras Al Khaimah simple, easy and a pleasant experience. The goal is to make Ras Al Khaimah regional hub for industrial manufacturing, trade and commerce.
